Things Are Looking Up For Cardiff

Supporting your high street makes sense financially. House prices are lower in places where shops are boarded up. Simple.

Cardiff’s a bit down at the moment, the life and light has temporarily gone out for our wonderful capital. Shops aren’t enjoying the buzz of customers and quite a few have been lost to the lockdown. But despite this, the resilience of our businesses and our retailers, particularly the independents, is quite inspiring.

I see restaurants and cafes open and new businesses starting out. Boutiques are bringing in their spring/summer stock. Yes winter’s been hard (that’s an understatement) but they’re fighting to stay afloat. It’s going to be challenging for the next six months at least. Hopefully Christmas was a shot in the bank accounts of many small businesses around the city – God knows they needed it.

You can help…

Get out there. Shop. Don’t always go on Amazon or Ebay. Shop local, show some loyalty. If you find it cheaper, give the local business a chance to price match it. If you’re not in business, it’ll be difficult for you to comprehend how hard it is. Trust me, it can be soul destroying.

Cardiff’s gorgeous arcades are bouncing back, but they need your help.

What’s in it for you?
Yws, you’re probably thinking ‘what’s in it for me?’ and that’s okay. Here’s where you benefit. House prices are higher in areas with vibrant high streets and good local shops and facilities. If your village in Cardiff has been vibrant but the shops are closing, guess which way your home value is headed? Boarded up shops are not a good look – no one wants live in a village, town or city with empty premises, so support them. You won’t regret it in the long run.
