Over the course of nine years, Brooklinde has garnered a reputation for beautiful bespoke jewellery where the quality of their design is surpassed only by their excellent craftsmanship. We talk to owner Irene Linder.

Tell us about Brooklinde
We are an independent contemporary jewellers set in Cardiff’s historic High Street Arcade. My husband Rob, who is the goldsmith, and I own the business and Clare and Emma are our designers. We are a great team and we all work together to showcase our jewellery.
When did you open?
We opened in July 2000.
Who are your customers?
Independently minded people with varying budgets who are looking for individual pieces. Most of our customers become regulars and are happy to recommend us to their friends and families.
Why is Brooklinde special?
We all love what we do! Being able to take a customer’ s idea and through talking, sketching and model making come up with an individual design, then create it in our onsite workshop and finally the huge sense of satisfaction at seeing the customers excitement when we hand over the finished piece.
Why do people shop at Brooklinde?
Customers shop with us because they want distinctive items of jewellery, whether they are buying a present or treating themselves. Like myself they enjoy wearing jewellery that people will comment on and they feel makes a statement about themselves.
How did you get into the business?
I worked for many years in an exclusive ladies and men’s clothing shop in Cardiff. I met Rob, my husband, who was a goldsmith and I decided to retrain in jewellery, gaining a lot of knowledge and enjoyment. At the time we both realised there was a gap in the market for a dynamic contemporary jeweller with an onsite designer and goldsmith and we went on to open Brooklinde Jewellery.
What do you stock and make?
We showcase and make designer engagement rings and wedding rings in platinum, 18ct and 9ct gold and also palladium. We regularly make bespoke wedding rings to fit perfectly next to the more unusually shaped engagement rings.
A considerable part of the work we do at Brooklinde is ‘one off’ commissioned items, working to the customer’s requirements and budget. Sourcing stunning gemstones and diamonds for clients to see before setting them in an array of different designs. We also showcase designer collections by Eden, Fischer, Alexis Dove, Ateliar Gilmar, Bjorg, Dower and Hall, Deco Echo, Goodman and Morris as well as our own gold and silver collections.
