LEGAL EAGLES

City Life talks to legal specialist Jeremy Davies of J A Hughes about their exciting new venture in Cardiff.

J A Hughes, Barry’s oldest and largest firm of Solicitors in the Vale of Glamorgan have taken over Crossroads Solicitors in Beulah Road, Rhiwbina and will be offering a full legal service to the residents of Cardiff.

Congratulations on your new branch launch. Why did you choose Rhiwbina?
We felt that it was time to introduce our brand of legal help to the people of North Cardiff. J A Hughes aims to offer a wide range of legal services with specialist advice from each of our departments whilst still providing a dedicated and personal service to our clients.

Who will be working at the new branch and what services will be on offer?
Neil Ashton, former principal of Crossroads, will remain ‘in residence’ with his secretarial team, dealing with residential conveyancing. Commercial Property transactions and Company and Commercial matters, including employment law will be dealt with by me. Wills Probate and Tax Planning services and Elderly Client services will be provided by my partner Duncan Kennedy and his team. Matrimonial and Family matters will be dealt with by my partner Sandra Horwood and her assistants. Personal Injury matters will be dealt with by two of my partners, Stephen Price and Tracy Ellis. Last but by no means least Crime, Licensing and Child Care matters will be dealt with by partner Tim Hackett and his team.

We understand that you will be opening on Saturday mornings, what is the thinking behind this?

People lead increasingly pressurised lifestyles, often it is impossible for them to visit their solicitor in normal office hours. Opening on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm goes some way to addressing that issue and enables those clients who would otherwise find it difficult to do so to have a personal face to face relationship with their legal adviser.

Please tell us more about the free legal clinic which you prvide every Thursday. Who can come along and what topics will be covered?
From 4pm to 7pm each Thursday, one partner and one other fee earner from the firm will be in attendance to provide the free legal clinic. Everyone is welcome and we will cover all areas of legal work undertaken by the firm so the topics covered are many and varied.
