PONTCANNA
The Cinnamon Tree curries flavour
We had planned a meal at a friend’s house in Pontc anna recently but due to unforeseen circumstances, our friend had to cancel at short notice. When I say short notice, I mean we were en route and got the call. Having not eaten all day and really looking forward to a good meal, we decided not to deprive ourselves and call in to The Cinnamon Tree in the area to see if we could get a table.
We were greeted by name by Amran the owner as we entered the restaurant and shown to a table. As usual, the restaurant was packed but luckily the gods were kind and a table was found for us. What we particularly like about The Cinnamon Tree is the attentive staff and of course the food. Speaking of which, we started our meal with popadoms with a mix of salads and chutneys, followed by a garlic fest of stir fried mushrooms in a butter sauce with garlic and fenugreek and king prawns in a garlic sauce. For our mains, we chose lamb korahi and lamb shashlic with two varieties of rice, namely lemon and special fried rice.
We also opted for a favourite of mine – keema nan. Both dishes were full of flavour and we dipped in to each other’s dishes with great gusto. Even though the restaurant was busy, the service was second to none. Yes, we were disappointed not to visit our friend and sample her cooking but The Cinnamon saved the day. We’ve set another date to visit our friend so I think that what’s called a win, win situation!
