Second gala of massed male choirs
By popular demand a second Gala
of Massed Male Choirs hosted by
the Cardiac Charity SADS UK will
be held at St Davids Hall, Cardiff on
May 8th 2010 at 7pm
The cardiac charity SADS UK hosted a
Gala of Massed Male Choirs at St
David's Hall Cardiff in February last year. Despite the worst snowfall in years the audience was undeterred as over 1,000 people took to their seats to enjoy a wonderful evening of music and song, presented by BBC Wales most experienced and high profile news and sports presenter Jason Mohammad.
The beautiful Natalya Romaniw (who also took part in the Singer of the World in Cardiff last year) accompanist Caradog Williams indulged the audience to popular renditions from Mozart to Puccini.
The audience were treated to the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh and the Corps of Drums performing under the expertise of their Director of Music, Major Denis Burton. After Henry Mancinis Swing March led by Major Andy Jones, the lights were dimmed for the spectacular drums 'Victory Beatings' where the audience were wowed as the ultra-violet light picked out just the drumsticks and they appeared to dance in time to the music. Their timing was impeccable.
The strong stage presence and skill of City of Newport Musical Director, Frank Jones from Bedwas was evident as he conducted the massed male choir of over 400 voices bringing them together to perform so seamlessly. Their powerful performance included A-Men arr. Roberts/Proctor and Eli Jenkins Prayer, Troyte arr J Jenkins.
Frank Jones was keen to include the audience and the house lights went up in the first half as they sang sung Cwm Rhondda and to finish the evening a very rousing Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.
