Experience the thrill of S’Ardia and a countryside retreat with Sardinian Places
Sardinia specialist ‘Sardinian Places’ highlights the Mandra Edera Hotel as the perfect countryside retreat and place to stay for visitors keen to witness S’Ardia, the island’s spectacular 2-day equestrian event held on 06 and 07 July. The S’Ardia is an exhilarating horserace that takes place each year in the village of Sédilo in the Oristano province of Northern Sardinia. Each year around 100 riders take part in this fast and frenzied race through the dusty streets to remember the battle of Milvio, which took place between Constantine and the pagan Maxentius.
The race will take place on the evening of the 6th July and again the following morning in the area around the church of San Costantino and each year a crowd of around 30,000 come to watch the spectacle. See photographs of last year’s event visit.
The country hotel Mandra Edera in Abbasanta is an ideal place to stay and travel to nearby Sedilo for S’Ardia. Set in 30 hectares, Mandra Edera offers complete tranquillity and the chance to explore the area on horseback, jeep safari or on foot. The hotel is renowned for its excellent organic home cooking, direct from the farm and Mandra Edera’s chef runs cookery courses as an extra facility for guests. The property boasts its own pool, Jacuzzi, fitness room and solarium and it is within the vicinity of two of the most important archeological sites on the island - the Loca Nuraghe and the Santa Cristina
A week at Mandra Edera during July costs £371 per person based on two sharing on bed and breakfast basis. A choice of low cost flights and car hire can be quoted.
