Join the HACK or Big Bike Ride to help raise funds to end child cruelty

The NSPCC is looking for all outdoor enthusiasts across Wales to sign up and take part in two fantastic fundraising events this summer, the Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (HACK) and the Big Bike Ride. So, you can either put your best foot forward or jump on your bike to help raise money to end child abuse in Wales.

The NSPCC is calling for would-be hikers across Wales to get their walking boots on and sign up for the NSPCC’s HACK, a 25 mile hiking challenge through some of the most stunning countryside in the area.

The HACK, which originated in England four years ago, will be held for the first time in Wales along the Llyn Peninsula. The event will take place on Saturday 12 September 2009 with the route starting and finishing in the beautiful seaside village of Aberdaron known as “The Land’s End of Wales”.  Walkers will be able to delight in panoramic sea views as well as breathtaking vistas of the Llyn Peninsula and the Snowdonia Mountain range throughout their hike.

TV presenter and nature enthusiast Iolo Williams, who is supporting the event said:  "It's great to be able to take up a challenge like this for such an important cause. As a father myself I feel passionately that all children have the right to a safe and happy childhood and supporting this event is an opportunity to help make this a reality. The Llyn Peninsula is a stunning area of Wales with some breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife so there'll be plenty to keep people entertained on the journey round. A challenge it may be but it definitely looks set to be a fun one."

The NSPCC has only a limited number of places available so if you’re interested in taking up the challenge then why not register today. The registration fee is £15 and is for over 18’s only. For further details (including video and photos from HACK 2008) and online registrations and payments, please log on to www.nspcc.org.uk/hack or contact  the NSPCC Cymru/Wales appeals office on Tel: 02920 267008 or e-mail: juliegeorge@nspcc.org.uk

If the HACK seems just that one step too far for you, maybe the NSPCC Big Bike Ride will be more to your liking.

The Big Bike Ride, sponsored this year by Network Rail, is an opportunity for people of all ages and fitness to get out and have some fun this summer.  It's easy to take part – simply sign up for your free organisers' pack and set a date and distance.  Your Big Bike Ride can be any distance you wish from a lap of the local park to miles on the National Cycle Network – it's entirely up to you.  Ask your friends, family and colleagues to join you and then get sponsored to raise money for the NSPCC.

Julie George said, "Organising or joining a sponsored Big Bike Ride is a great way to have fun and enjoy the outdoors this summer, whilst raising money for a great cause.  Sadly, a third of children who call ChildLine can't get through to talk to someone.  By raising money with your Big Bike Ride you will be helping answer many more children's cries for help so that no voice goes unheard."

To register for your organisers' pack, or for more information about the NSPCC’s Big Bike Ride go to www.bigbikeride.co.uk or call 0845 130 3073.

All money raised by this year's HACK and Big Bike Ride events will support the go NSPCC’s Childs Voice Appeal. The aim of the appeal is to transform ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline to answer many more children's cries for help.  So that whether they call, email, text or contact us online, help will be there.
