Would you like to see an Alien World on the Far Side of the Galaxy?
You can do, at Llanover Hall Arts Centre this month.

There's a chance for you to enter a strange and different universe
and entry is free!

Artist Betty Lane, well known for her involvement in the graphic
design workshop 'Bojangles' on Crwys Road, is offering you this
exciting possibility.

Betty, who studied at Cardiff College of Art and St. Martins, London,
is presenting a display of her last two years of work which has involved processes of photographic imaging.

Betty says " I have long been interested in photography as exciting way to make fresh images. And with the arrival of digital control of imaging,
it's even more fun!

You are able to concentrate on creating the image you want, and are not distracted by worrying about the technical stuff."

Her original idea of turning bubbles into alien worlds was inspired by her son, Dr. Ben Lane . He had taken photographs of bubbles and explained that it was difficult because they needed to be taken in the split second that their iridescent colours were formed and before the bubble snapped back into eternity.

She has always been interested in elements of Astronomy, drawing and painting eclipses of the sun and phases of the moon. To a certain extent this is a statement of who she is - the universe is so orderly and tidy, she wants to be part of it.

Betty saw the bubble images as an artistic challenge, and put her photos onto computer so as to access her image manipulation programs.

She used them to emphasize the spherical qualities and enhance the colours.

When she was satisfied, she went on to create an alien setting for her virtual world to spin in.

She printed out the most beautiful and evocative of the images as large as was possible. Size is important to convey the mystery and majesty of her captured universes.

She hopes that after viewing her images, her audience will share a sense of the immensity and endless possibilities of space.
