Lottie Ball is a life-saver for Welsh children

When Lottie and Karl Stokes welcomed their second child into the world in February 2009, they had no idea that in a few hours their joy would turn into terror. Louie was born with massive heart complications that were spotted when he was less than a day old and put his life in the balance.

Since then, Louie has undergone a series of operations, culminating in life-saving open-heart surgery just before his first birthday. He is now a boisterous, loving little boy with a bright future. Having gone through every parent's worst nightmare, Lottie and Karl are keen to help other families who find themselves in a similar situation. Lottie has organised a number of fundraising events for the Children's Heart Unit for Wales.

Lottie said: "The care Louie receives at the Children's Heart Unit has been second to none and we all feel in very safe hands there. Raising money to support the Unit has helped me turn our terrifying experience into something positive."

On Saturday 16th July, 100 people attended a Summer Ball at the Park Plaza, the second Lottie has organised to raise money for the Heart Unit. Thanks to generous donations from local and national businesses, a lively auction had guests bidding for amazing prizes, including a stunning top prize from Pravins Jewellers.

The Ball raised over £5,000 for new life-saving equipment, as well as further research and education, at the Children's Heart Unit for Wales.
