TOTALLY FLOORED

Val and Andy needed to source the best quaility tiles for the bathrooms, Victorian style flooring in the hall and above the Aga in the kitchen. There was only one contender as far as they were concerned and that had to be The Ceramic Tile Warehouse, Cardiff.

We spoke to owner Mike de Claire about the business which has a great deal of experience.

How long has The Ceramic Tile Warehouse been at its current premises at Ocean Park in Cardiff?
We’ve been here since 1992. We believe, and, most importantly, our customers often tell us, that we have the finest selection of tiles available anywhere in Wales. We continue to invest in all of the elements required to achieve this, such as equipment, the latest styles the industry has to offer, warehousing and, of course, our staff.

Who are your customers?
Our customers include the general public, designers, builders and architects. We can lay claim to supplying many local celebrities but, of course, I couldn’t divulge their names!

How did you get involved in The Vicarage project?
We’ve worked with Andy of Hamptons on many projects. He knows that we can source the most appropriate tiles to suit any flooring need from our display of thousands of tiles from all over the world. We also pride ourselves on our high level of service and this is crucial part of any project.

What is your product range?
We cover ceramic and porcelain wall and floor tiles, glass tiles, borders and insets, natural stone, Victorian wall and floor tiles, hand-made tiles and all adhesives, grouts and sealers etc.

Did this project pose any challenges for you?
The main challenge on this project was to find the correct tiles for each area in terms of finish, size and style.

Which part of the project are you most pleased with?
I’m delighted with how the whole project came together but I am particularly pleased with the Victorian tiles which we used in the hall. Today’s nostalgia for Victorian elegance has led us to find a supplier who is capable of recreating these classic designs and I think that the hall at The Vicarage looks superb.

Any future plans for The Ceramic Tile Warehouse?
We are looking to get more involved in design and specification. We have a wealth of experience in the industry and are always looking to flex our creative design skills.
